Ancient Greece is the civilization that existed roughly between the 8th century BC and 600 AD, and Delphi was said to represent the center of it. Reputedly built on the spot where Zeus’ eagles collided when they were released from opposite ends of the earth, the ancient town is littered with intriguing monuments from this fascinating period of history.

After meeting your guide in Athens, hear tales about the ancient Greeks and their lives in Delphi while traveling to the town by air-conditioned coach. Pass through the towns of Levadia and Arachova – both famous for their production of brightly colored carpets – and arrive in Delphi around midday.

First stop is a tour of the Delphi archeological site – a UNESCO World Heritage Site and easily one of the most important digs in Europe. As you walk around the evocative ruins with your guide, see famous monuments like the Temple of Apollo.

Head inside Delphi Archeological Museum and explore this veritable treasure trove at leisure. Home to countless artifacts and intriguing relics, the museum consists of 15 rooms arranged in chronological order from 15th century BC to 4th century AD. Be sure to check out the bronze Charioteer of Delphi and the Sphinx of Naxos.

After eating lunch at a Delphi hotel (own expense), you will return to Athens, stopping in Arachova on the way to stretch your legs or grab a coffee (own expense).

Take your own postcard-perfect snaps of Cape Sounion's Temple of Poseidon on a scenic afternoon trip from Athens. Cape Sounion is only 45 miles (70 kilometers) from Athens, making it the perfect lazy afternoon destination.

The road to Cape Sounion passes the idyllic beaches of the Saronic Gulf - Glyfada, Vouliagmeni and Varkiza - as well as countless caves. The ancient Greeks certainly knew how to choose a temple location, as Cape Sounion is a remarkable site. The Cape's Temple of Poseidon is perched on a rocky hilltop overlooking the sea, a gleaming white beacon for ancient (as well as modern) travelers along this dangerous stretch of coast.

The view across the Aegean is magnificent, extending all the way to Kea and the Peloponnese on a clear day. The Temple of Poseidon was built in 44 B.C., and many of its original Doric columns are still standing. One of the columns has a graffito left by none other than Lord Byron in the early 1800s.

This is a great half-day tour option if you're looking to explore Greece beyond Athens, complete with stunning views and world-class Greek ruins.

The history of Delphi stretches back in time to at least 1500 BC, before the classical Greek period. Famed throughout the ancient world, Delphi was acknowledged to be the center of the earth by Zeus but was also known because of its oracle. The eternal flame burned in the Temple of Apollo during the Pythian Games, a forerunner of the modern Olympics, and the city's role extended past Ancient Greece when Roman emperors protected the site and continued to send delegations to seek the oracle's advice.

During your visit to Delphi, see the physical structures associated with this incredibly long history, and learn about their rich mythology. You will also have plenty of time to visit the impressive museum to see its many artifacts from as far back as the 15th century BC. Highlight include the Naxian Sphinx, statue of Antinoos, and the bronze sculpture of a charioteer.

Next we continue your tour to the pretty mountain village of Arachova, perched at 3,117 feet (950 meters) on the south slopes of Mt. Parnassus. You'll have time for lunch or a snack with many choices available (own expense), and wander the streets, visiting some of the many craft shops & enjoy the scenic views before the return trip to Athens.

Ancient Corinth was one of the largest and most important cities of Ancient Greece with a population of 90,000 in 400 BC, the rival of Athens in wealth, and significant in Biblical times also as the Roman provincial capital of Greece. Amazingly, you wander its streets and see the remains of its temples, workshops & markets, walking in the very footsteps of the ancients spending all the time you need to enjoy & contemplate this magnificent site before continuing.

Our tour proceeds to the Nemean region where viticulture has been recorded for over 2000 years and an area full of ancient settlements such as the bronze age Mycinae only a short distance away. After traveling through the hills & olive groves of this beautiful countryside we find our first winery and join one of the skilled Oenologists for an hours tour and tasting. Continuing for around 20 minutes we come to our second winery chosen to expand on the range of the first and once again allowing you to experience the unique wines derived from the local varieties such as the aromatic Moschofilero & the noble Agiorgitiko.

After thanking our hosts at the winery we travel once more through the local hills & groves returning you to the door of your hotel, cruise ship terminal or onward destination with the memories of the day.
