After meeting with a member of the Be a Greek Team outside the Acropolis Metro station (Makrigianni Str.), you will enjoy a 4-hour walk in the heart of Athens, during which you and your children will have the opportunity to experience ancient Athens and its way of life!
Starting from Hadrian's Gate, which is considered by many the entrance of Ancient Athens, we will then see the largest temple of ancient Greece, the Temple of Olympian Zeus, where we will have the first Activity of our walk.
Our next stop will be the historic Plaka District, where the ancient Athenian lived most of his daily life. At this old neighborhood, our second Activity will take place, during which we will get to know the life of the young but also the older Athenians!
Walking in the shadow of the Acropolis and the Odeon of Herodes Atticus, we will reach the Pnyx Hill, where the Athenians gathered to make their popular assemblies, making the hill one of the first and most important areas for the creation of the Athenian Democracy. On this hill, where Pericles, Aristides, Alcibiades and many other important politicians spoke, we will be introduced to the constitution of the Democracy and we will experiment by writing in ancient Greek and by forming Greek words!
Heading for the next stop of our tour, we will walk through Thissio, a traditional neighborhood at the foot of the Acropolis, to arrive at the Temple of Hephaestus, who gave his name to the surrounding area. There, we will make a stop of about an hour, offering you and your children the pleasure of enjoying a traditional Greek coffee, tea or any other beverage of your liking. At this point we will perform still another Activity in order to familiarize ourselves with the 12 Gods of Olympus!
Leaving the café we will walk to Monastiraki area and then take the Metro from Monastiraki Station to get off at Syntagma Station, where we will have the opportunity to admire the famous Syntagma Square and the Hellenic Parliament.
Heading towards the Zappeion Hall and the National Gardens, we will arrive at the Panathenaic Stadium (Kallimarmaron), which has always been the finishing point of the world-renowned Marathon Race and where our tour will be concluded as well. Here, the children, since they successfully concluded our games and Activities all around Athens, by taking a long trip though time and by getting to know yesterday’s Greece through the great city of today, they will all be given awards as the ancient Greek Olympians were!
